POETRY ASSIGNMENTS

POETRY ASSIGNMENT NUMBER ONE.
Your first poetry assignment this semester is to create a poem that makes use of these three elements: 1. A conflict between the speaker and his family or his culture. 2. Five vocabulary words from any of the three lists based on Cuckoo's Nest, Brave New World, or Wuthering Heights. 3. A concrete object that acts as a unifying symbol of the piece. We are basing this on Oliver's "The Black Walnut Tree", so allow this poem to serve as a model for you. It is due this Thursday, August 22nd at midnight. You will need to post your poem to your blog. You may add a photo, illustration, or graphic if you like. You also need to turn in your group paragraph on this day. Remember to use the model student essay to help you evaluate your group's paragraph. You want to be sure that you show how the poet uses the tools of language to communicate meaning in her poem. You only need to turn in one paragraph for the three members of your group. The paragraph is due in class on Thursday, August 22nd.
